Personal Statement/Bio:

I have been teaching voice for 10 years in Redding, CA. I am an avid performer and director as well as a teacher. Teaching singing is a great joy in my life, and I consider it a blessing and a privilege to participate in the artistic growth and exploration of my student's art.

Education/Training:

My background is in Opera and Musical Theatre, so students will be learning classical style technique. I believe this to be invaluable to performers, because once you learn to sing properly, you can sing any genre or style of music.
I received my A.A. degree in music from Shasta College, and went on to major in Vocal Performance at the HARTT School of Music, Hartford, CT. Since my return to California I have studied with Robert Waterbury, (a former S.F. Opera Company member) and Professor Emerita Gwen Curatilo of Chico State.

Teaching Philosophy:

Lessons begin with a thorough explanation of the basics of singing. Students will learn about the anatomy of the voice, proper breath support, vocal technique and the essentials of maintaining vocal health. Students will be assigned music based on their age and skill level. There is mandatory student recital every 4-6 months. This enables the students to perform in front of a live audience, build confidence through experience, and marks milestones in their learning development.

Music Programs:

I am the founder, Music Director and Artistic Director of the Westside Performing Arts Company. I direct all the music and coach all the vocalists for our theatre education programs, and performances. (WPAC is a theatre education and performing arts company.)
I have also been a company member and the Vocal Director for Redding's The Dance Project since 2005.(A professional theatre and dance company.)
