Personal Statement/Bio:
The singing studio uses an integrated approach, where access to a singer's natural vocal strengths, interpretive powers and musical instincts are facilitated. Singing is taught cross genre and combines the latest scientific information about the singing process and time tested traditional techniques
This studio is the perfect place for who desire the same level of expertise one would receive from an instructor in a top university or conservatory on a private one to one basis. Now you can study where elite professional singers, recording artists and other vocal coaches gain instruction.
Lori Joachim Fredrics has worked in many capacities within the music and entertainment industry including as a performer, director, educator, artist manager, researcher and theatrical agent .
Indeed, a rare breed among operatic soprano/mezzo-sopranos, Lori is equally at home singing the standard opera repertoire, avant garde new music, 'legit' musical theatre, standard and scat-style jazz, as well as pop-style background vocals.
She is known for her rich vocal tone, expressive interpretation, precise intonation, accurate musicianship and incredibly clear diction in four languages.
A knowledgeable exponent of art song repertoire, Lori takes a special interest in the works of Schumann, Mahler, Ravel, and Faure as well as works by contemporary American composers, including those by her husband, Howard Fredrics.
As a University instructor of voice and private coach to many professional singers, Lori has been a mentor to performers on both sides of the Atlantic.
Students and former students have performed on Broadway, in London's West End, at top music festivals, concert halls and jazz clubs as well as placing in the finals of prestigious competitions.

Teaching Philosophy:
I consider each person who comes for lessons to be an artist in development. I use all the tools at my disposal including my understanding of vocal anatomy and function, the physics of sound and the various different techniques I have learned from over a dozen master teachers and singers with whom I have studied.
In order for a person to sing well many different factors have to come together simultaneously. The interpretive, musical and physical/technical aspects ALL need to be there. However when learning to sing in a lesson,a singer can only focus on one element at a time.
In lessons I seek to assist a singer to perfect each element, the breathing, the placement/resonance, the throat position, the musical and stylistic element and of course, the dramatic interpretation. We work on mastering each element until it works naturally and automatically.
Once several elements, such as knowing the musical score and breathing properly becomes a habit, one can then concentrate on others and the student sees marked improvement. But it is not until all elements come together; the technique, the musical and the emotion that it will feel right to the student singer and look and sound right to the audience. The singer gets the "knack" of it and feels that a "breakthrough" has been achieved . I use the German word "Gestalt" to describe this because there is no English word that is sufficient. A Gestalt is pattern, a system that works together where the sum is greater than the parts. My aim is to teach singing as a Gestalt
