Personal Statement/Bio:

Isabella Abbonizio is an Italian Classical Guitar Performer and Teacher. She is also PhD in Musicology. She graduated in Guitar at Conservatory “G. B. Martini” of Bologna in 2000 under the guidance of G. Ponce de León. She attended Masterclasses with Roland Dyens, Piero Bonaguri, Eugenio Becherucci, Frédéric Zigante. Isabella performed both as solist and in ensemble in various locations in Italy. She has also performed in first performances of 20th and 21st century scores.She is recipients of First Prize at International Competition. Isabella is member of NYCCGS Guitar Orchestra.
Isabella has taught Classical Guitar and Music Theory for ten years in Music Schools, Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges and in her private studio. She has recently moved to NYC from Italy.

Isabella is also musicologist with expertise in 20th century Music, Postcolonial Studies and Music Education. She realized the first extensive study on the Guitar Music of Maurice Ohana (1913-1992) published on the international journal «Il Fronimo». She has been Lecturer in Music Education and in Musicology at University of RomaTre from 2007 to 2010. Isabella is author of papers published in international journals and she attends international conferences on Music Education and Musicology.
