Personal Statement/Bio:
Have you always wanted to learn the piano? Or maybe you haven't played in a while and you're wanting to refresh and enhance what you know. Learning an instrument is a rewarding, lifetime gift.
My name is Inger Latreille, a Napa resident for 17 years. In my many years of playing experience, I've been fortunate to share my passion of music with others, giving the student the feeling of an "I can do it!" attitude. My students range from the very young beginner to those of retirement age looking to learn or revisit this fantasitc instrument. Since learning music is like learning a new language, my goal is to get each student to a proficident level of reading, playing and broadening their skills, so that they gain more confidence in their abilities. Music traning should be a fun process, while building a solid foundation.
Education/Training:
My music journey began at the age of 5, tinkering on my grandmother's grand piano and organ. I became awestruck ever since. For 11 years I privately took classical piano and theory lessons, while involving myself heavily in musicals, choirs, recitals and community theatre. This carried over to my college years where I attended Hayward State University with an emphasis in voice. I continued on to San Jose State University where I completed my Bachelor of Science in the Arts.
Teaching Philosophy:
In my 5 years of teaching, I've come to realize that not only do I love teaching, but love learning a great deal from my students as well. I will generally suggest pieces appropriate to the student's level, but am always open to their wishes of which music genre they're most interested in. My approach to teaching focuses to inspire the student and develop reading music notation, sitereading, scales and chords, applied theory, developing tone quality, ear training, efficient practicing techniques, musical expression and quality musicianship.
Music Programs:
I currently perform at recitals, weddings and on occasion, accompany for middle school/high school music students. I also serve on the Napa High School Choir Board.
Cancellation Policy:
All lessons are attended by a commited timeslot. Student must notify of a cancellation a minimum of 24 hours prior to lesson time. If 24 hours' notice is given, then a make-up lesson will be scheduled at the earliest possible date. If less than 24 hours' notice is given, student will be charged for the scheduled lesson and no make-up lesson will be given. If the teacher cancels a lesson due to unforeseen/special circumstances, student will be fully reimbursed or lesson rescheduled.
Promotions:
I encourage a free, informal first meeting to assess your level and goals as a student, and to address questions. I offer a 5% discount per student for multiple members/family.
