Whether you teach music lessons from your home, or you rent a studio, the location of your business can make a huge difference in your enrollment and income. So whether you’re a new music teacher, or you’re a long-time teacher looking to relocate, the following suggestions could help ensure greater success.

Obviously, targeting areas where parents have disposable income is a smart strategy. But there are other important factors to consider. Establishing your music teaching services in a bustling, high-traffic area with families and children should be near the top of your list of placement strategies.

For example, setting up shop near venues frequented by groups of children (and parents), such as schools, churches, community centers, day care facilities, will provide many opportunities for building student enrollment. You will benefit from word of mouth advertising talking with school administrators, office personnel, teachers, pastors, and parents about your services. Plus, with permission from the appropriate entities, you could distribute flyers and business cards at some of these locations to solicit student enrollment and promote music education in your community.

Keep in mind, however, that before you begin promoting your music program, especially in a new area, it’s important to able to show that you’re trustworthy and qualified. Having proof that you’ve submitted to background check will go a long way toward providing that peace of mind for parents, students and community leaders.
