Personal Statement/Bio:

Terry Laubscher arrived in the USA on Labor Day 2000. She taught music at Guilford County Schools for two years in Greensboro, North Carolina, and piano at the Music Academy of North Carolina.

She has taught school music and piano in Texas since August 2002.

Her mission in life is to spread the language of music to as many children so that their lives can be enriched with a "new game" of symbols and sounds.
She enjoys nurturing students to succeed and master the skill of piano performance.

In 1996 she was appointed as First Education Specialist in Arts and Culture with the Western Cape Education Department, Cape Town, South Africa. She held the administrative position until she and her husband decided to emigrate to USA.

Ms. Laubscher's students achieve high scores in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Practical and Theory examinations. She enjoys teaching theory and developing the creative talents of composition students. AP MUSIC THEORY tutoring is also offered by her.
She is a Licentiate of both the Trinity College of Music, London, and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London.

She is a qualified musicologist and is researching the music of Penderecki - whose compositional techniques she greatly admires.

Another specialty is editing hand written scores and publishing them using Finale. She composes and arranges pieces for piano, percussion ensemble as well as for chamber orchestra.


Ms. Laubscher speaks three languages fluently, English, Polish and Afrikaans. She has a basic knowledge of French. She loves to travel whenever the opportunity arises.

Teaching Philosophy:

I teach to suit the needs and level of the student. I adapt various methods which I find are suitable for the physical level as well as the age group.
Those that persue the classical route are entered for the British Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, UK. piano examinations. The levels are from 1 - 8. www.abrsm.org
My lesson consists of Theory, exercises/scales, sight reading and a repertoire of pieces.
I encourage students to learn pieces at least 2 levels above their sight reading level. Students learn their first piece in their first lesson. The music notation is introduced from the first lesson.

Cancellation Policy:

Lessons are per semester. Fall (18 lessons) and Spring (20 lessons). Prepayment required by first lesson.
Semester payment is non-refundable.
No monthly or individual lessons are offered during SPRING or FALL semesters.

Due to the teacher having to travel from student's home to another student's home, student cancellation of lesson will not result in make-up during Fall or Spring semesters. Times and days are fixed for that semester and cannot be altered at will.
Teacher's lesson cancellation will result in alternative day/time or refund for that lesson.

Summer semester: (June - July)
Summer semester is at will, with as many lessons as student requires. Lessons will be made up if cancelled by student or teacher.
