Personal Statement/Bio:
I believe that anybody can learn to play the piano and enjoy music of all types. I love to teach classical, but if jazz or pop is what you want to play then your lessons will be geared in that direction. Come in and look around my studio or to watch another lesson and introduce yourself and we will go from there!
Education/Training:
I grew up playing the Suzuki Method and have spent the last 3 years training to teach the material under Cathy Hargrave, a well-known Suzuki Piano Teacher Trainer. I teach all levels from Book 1 to Book 7. I also have a Masters in Music Education with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy from Southern Methodist University where I studied under Alfred Mouledous.
Teaching Philosophy:
I mainly teach and am trained in the Suzuki Method, a method where the student learns first by ear and then gradually to read the material that they already know, just as we learn language. For this reason, it is best to start children very young (age 3 to 5) but I have had quite a bit of success with older students too. Understand that this method takes a lot of work from everyone: parent, child and teacher but is very fun and produces amazing results! If you would like to know more, please visit the Suzuki Association of the Americas website ( http://www.suzukiassociation.org ) or The International Suzuki Association website ( http://internationalsuzuki.org ).
I also have several students taking a more traditional approach. For them I use The Music Tree books and pick out repertoire based on the student's goal and skill level. I love to teach this way too and my students are certainly flourishing and having fun.
Music Programs:
I will soon have membership to Dallas Music Teacher's Association and Suzuki Association of the Americas. The paperwork is on it's way!
Cancellation Policy:
Students must give me 24 hours notice of a lesson cancelation, especially if they are paying by the month, semester or year. If I am not given 24 hours notice, a makeup lesson will not be provided for the missed day. Of course, if the cancellation is due to unexpected injury or illness, this policy is flexible.
Promotions:
I will give one demonstration lesson so that everyone can get to know me and decide whether we will work well together. Metroplex Piano will also give a student 4 free lessons if they buy a piano from them.
